What you’ll discover here:Spinalonga Island
The first signs of settlement date back to Minoan times. In 1579, during the Venetian occupation of Crete, the Venetians built a fortress on the island to guard the bay of Mirabello. In 1715, the Turks, who had occupied Crete for almost 200 years, took over the fortress. Between 1900 and 1957, it was used as a leper colony. Today, the island is an open-air museum.
The sunken city of OlousOlous is an ancient ruin of a town located under the water in the bay of Elounda. This intriguing site can be reached by snorkeling or diving from the narrow strip of land that joins the mainland and Kolokytha peninsula, with access just south of Elounda.
The Venetian salt-pansThe ancient city of Olous, and therefore the broader area, was depopulated in the mid-7th century due to raids by the Arab pirates in the Mediterranean Sea. Olous remained uninhabited until the mid-15th century, when the Venetians began creating the salt-pans in the gulf’s shallow and salty waters.
Plaka villagePlaka is a tiny, picturesque village located about 16 km north of Agios Nikolaos and 5 km north of the sophisticated resort of Elounda. It is an old fishing village with a few seaside taverns and accommodations.
Elounda villageWith its extraordinary natural beauty, world-famous guests, and elegant hotels, Elounda is the favorite destination for presidents, sheiks, royalty, and celebrities. One of the most beautiful areas in Crete is home to a series of luxury resorts, with private beaches, marinas, and high-quality services.

Lep dan za potapljanje z masko z mojo 6-člansko družino. Vode so bile mirne in le 6 ft globoke, vendar je bilo morsko življenje čudovito. Celo ujel nekaj jastogov.
