About this activity

River trekking is an easy and fun activity that does not require technical equipment neither has it got difficult passages. In essence river trekking is going through a river, usually inside a canyon, and it is enjoyable even for families or small groups. Crete is a small paradise for those who wish to try this activity, because of the numerous canyons and the mountainous landscape. Ιn Alternative Crete we suggest the Kourtaliotis Gorge, Patsos Gorge and Mesa (Platys) Gorge. Our expedition usually takes 1,5 – 3 hours to complete, and sometimes our trek ends in splendid beaches like Preveli beach for example. Through river trekking you have the opportunity to see and admire exotic sites that will surprise you , like the Palm of theophrastus (Phoenix theophrast) or small waterfalls or unique forms of rocks. Giorgos went out of his ways and far beyond to make this river trekking tour an exceptional experience for us. It felt... no, it really was like trekking with a good and very experienced friend. We climbed and slid down boulders which we wouldn't have mastered (or even considered as a possible path). At every EVERY moment he was calm, patient and caring. Giorgos- we want to say thank you for a lifetime experience, we see each other again in Aradena.... and many more adventures!!!! The technical stuff: Giorgios picked us up at our hotel and also brought us back. The driving route was beautiful, he also equipped us with trekking poles n very cool helmets that were lightweight and easy to wear. The trek goes through the River in Kourtaliotiko Gorge, swimming and relaxing at Preveli Beach and a hike on shepherds paths back to the car. The views are stunning!!!!
